Spring is approaching and with it comes family vacations and spring break planning. While some family’s plan trips to southern beaches and tropical destinations, many families choose to enjoy the fun that comes with a family staycation right here in Portland. If you and your family plan to enjoy the spring season at home this year, Portland has lots to offer. To enjoy all the fun and get everyone involved in the planning, why not create a family bucket list? Here’s some great ideas to get your bucket list started!
Jump into Spring Break Fun at Sky High Sports Portland
Sky High Sports Portland is a great way to spend a fun day during Spring Break with the family. Load up everyone and head over for a fun-filled day of jumping and climbing excitement. At Sky High, there’s something for everyone from a friendly game of dodgeball, to a challenge to the top of the Klime Wallz, a slam dunk competition, or seeing who has the best moves on the Freestyle Court. You can even have lunch or dinner in the Sky Café. And, of course, if the adults are worn out from all the fun, they can relax and enjoy a glass of beer or wine and watch the kids Jump and play on the Super Size Air Bag, in Kids Court, the Arcade, and in Adventureland. Plus, if you and the family visit Sky High on St. Patrick’s Day and wear green, you’ll each receive a FREE $5 Game Card!
Take the Short Drive to Lincoln City
Lincoln City is a top Spring Break destination, but it’s so close, you could make it part of your staycation as a day trip or an overnight getaway. In Lincoln City, you and your family will find more than seven miles of coast to enjoy, as you spot beautiful gray whales offshore, seek your own coveted glass float along the shore, practice your beachcombing skills, or enjoy the Festival of Illusions.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors
Spring is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors and get back in touch with nature. In and around Portland, there is an abundance of activities to get you started. Portland Parks and Natural Area’s Ladybug Nature Walks are for kids six and under to enjoy with their grown-ups, as are the Honeybee Hikes at the Leach Botanical Gardens. For families of all ages, take a look at the great nature programs at Tryon Creek or the amazing activities at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.
Take a Train or Tram Ride
Trimet’s Orange Line offers up the chance for families to explore Westmoreland Park, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Milwaukie, The Oregon Rail Heritage Museum, Tilikum Crossing, as well as unique shopping venues and delectable dining options. Another great Spring Break option is a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram, which offers an incredible experience with amazing views of Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, as well as Portland’s downtown and numerous bridges. When you exit, enjoy the viewing area or head over to the largest enclosed sky bridge in North America to see more!
